Star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is facing a significant health challenge, having been diagnosed with both dengue and chikungunya. The absence of the experienced leg-break bowler has impacted Haryana’s domestic campaign, forcing him out of action since late November. Chahal confirmed his condition on Thursday, December 18th, explaining that he was unable to play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final due to the illnesses.
“I wished to be a part of the team, but unfortunately I am down with dengue and chikungunya, which have really taken a toll on my health,” Chahal communicated, emphasizing the need for rest and recovery. He reassured his supporters and teammates that he is focused on returning to the field at his best. “I’ll be back on the field and bowling at my full strength soon,” he declared, demonstrating his resilience.
While a precise return date remains unconfirmed, the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting December 24th, is a potential target for Chahal’s comeback. The leg-spinner has not been part of the Indian squad since the T20 World Cup, with his last international appearance in August 2023. To keep his bowling sharp, Chahal participated in English county cricket for Northamptonshire, where he delivered impressive performances, particularly in the County Championship. His consistent wicket-taking ability and experience make him a valuable asset, which is why Punjab Kings opted to retain him for the next IPL season.
