The 2025 Para World Championships in New Delhi commenced with impressive results for India. Shailesh Kumar achieved a gold medal in the Men’s T42/64 High Jump, setting a new championship record of 1.91m. This performance also broke the Asian record. Varun Bhati secured a bronze medal in the same event. In the Women’s 400m T20 Final, Deepthi Jeevanji earned a silver medal, posting a season-best time of 55.16 seconds. The championships, taking place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from September 27 to October 5, involve over 2,200 para-athletes representing 104 countries and feature 186 medal events. This event marks the largest Para-Athletics competition in Indian history and serves as a key qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics. The stadium, managed by the Sports Authority of India, has a seating capacity of 60,000 and was originally built for the 1982 Asian Games.
