Adani International School in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, successfully hosted the ISSO National Games Chess Competition 2025. This two-day event celebrated strategy, intelligence, and sportsmanship and saw the participation of over 370 students from more than 80 schools across 10 Indian states. The event was attended by over 650 people, including parents, coaches, and supporters, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere.
The tournament featured four age categories: Under 11, Under 14, Under 17, and Under 19. Competitors demonstrated their strategic thinking and composure throughout the competition.
Namrata Adani, the promoter of Adani International School, attended the opening ceremony and interacted with the students. Also present were Bhavesh Patel, former secretary of the Gujarat State Chess Association and Vice President of the All India Chess Federation, and Grandmaster Ankit Rajpara, who encouraged the young players and shared their insights.
Indian chess is experiencing a significant rise on the global stage, with young players like R. Praggnanandhaa and D. Gukesh competing with the world’s best. India’s strong performance in chess is rooted in a solid school-level system, with events like the Adani International School tournament offering vital competitive experience to young players.
By supporting such platforms, India is fostering a system that prepares players for international tournaments, ensuring that future champions emerge from schools across the country.
The event highlighted Adani International School’s dedication to education, demonstrating how excellence in sports enhances intellectual development. Medals were awarded in all four categories. The overall champion was Chhatrbhuj Narsi School, Mumbai, and Indus International School, Hyderabad, was the runner-up.
