Pace bowler Blair Tickner will play no further part in the second Test between New Zealand and the West Indies after suffering a dislocated left shoulder. The injury occurred on day one in Wellington when Tickner dived to stop a boundary, forcing him off the field. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the unfortunate development, stating that Tickner will not be able to bowl or field and is highly unlikely to bat.
Tickner had been a key performer for the Black Caps, being their most effective bowler on the opening day. He managed to claim four wickets, helping to dismiss the West Indies for a modest total of 204. His absence leaves a significant void in the bowling attack, especially given New Zealand’s pre-existing injury concerns that have already depleted their squad.
With Tickner out, the onus will now be on the other bowlers to share the load. This includes debutant Michael Rae, who had a successful first day with the ball, taking three wickets. Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, and the part-time bowling options of Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell will need to step up. The team’s batting performance will be critical in creating a comfortable buffer for the bowlers, particularly as the pitch is expected to become more favorable for batting as the match progresses.
