The aftermath of India’s Asia Cup win has been marred by a dispute over the presentation of the trophy. India, after defeating Pakistan, declined to accept the trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi. This refusal was due to Naqvi’s multiple positions, including his role as the Interior Minister of Pakistan. This made the situation sensitive, given the current diplomatic climate.
The BCCI has reacted negatively to Naqvi’s handling of the trophy presentation. Instead of arranging an alternative, Naqvi took the trophy back to his hotel. The BCCI Secretary, Devjit Saikia, has given Naqvi a chance to rectify his behavior by returning the trophy promptly. Failing this, the BCCI is prepared to take further action, potentially lodging a complaint during the ICC conference in Dubai in November, meaning that Naqvi has time until October to resolve the issue.
The Asia Cup 2025 final saw India triumph over Pakistan. India won the toss, chose to bowl, and limited Pakistan to 146 runs in 20 overs. India then successfully chased the target, reaching 147 runs with five wickets down.
