Indian Discus Thrower Qualifies for Under-20 World Championship Final

The Under‑20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene saw Indian athlete Amanat Kamboj book a place in the women’s discus final after launching the discus 52.58 meters in the qualifying round on Thursday. The effort was her best of the season and moved her to sixth place worldwide among her age group.

Kamboj, who previously won the Asian U‑20 title in May with a 52.24‑meter throw, improved her mark by more than three decimeters. She joins fellow Indians Ashish Yadav and T. Dharani Dharan, who earlier secured spots in the men’s javelin final.

Yadav topped his qualification group with a 69.87‑meter effort, while Dharani Dharan qualified with a 68.07‑meter throw, ranking 12th overall. South Africa’s Jan‑Hendrik Hemans automatically qualified for the javelin final with a 76.02‑meter launch. Poland’s Alexander Wojna, China’s Yang Zhaoyi and India’s Ashish Yadav also surpassed 69 meters, setting the stage for a competitive showdown.

On the track, Mogli Venkataram earned a semi‑final berth in the 800 metres by finishing third in his heat with 1:52.81, and Uvin Anand posted a faster 1:52.37. The mixed 4×400 relay team set a new season best of 3:22.85 but fell short of the top‑nine qualification threshold.

A total of 36 Indian athletes are representing the country at Hayward Field from August 5‑9, competing across a range of track and field events.
