By India Today Web Desk: World primary Iga Swiatek has grow to be the primary tennis participant since 1937 to win the Polish Sports Personality of the Year award.

Swiatek defeated the soccer star Robert Lewandowski and her ATP counterpart Hubert Hurkacz, amongst others, to clinch the title. Jadwiga Jedrzejowska had received the award in 1936 and 1937.

The Barcelona participant Lewandowski nominated Swiatek for the honour, and Swiatek admitted that this 12 months’s winner was on her thoughts.

“Two years in the past, I made it to the second place. Lewandoski was first,” Swiatek said. “This 12 months, I’m fairly curious what’s gonna occur!”

Widoki może i piękne, ale na jajecznicę się tu nie załapałam. Mam za to nadzieję, że bawiliście się na gali wspaniale. 🤗

Dziękuję baaardzo za wsparcie i wyróżnienie. Ogromnie gratuluję wszystkim nominowanym i nagrodzonym. ✨#SportowiecRoku pic.twitter.com/tLEIjfxIei

Swiatek, who suffered a season-ending semifinal defeat to Aryna Sabalenka on the WTA Finals Forth Worth, was unable to attend the gala in particular person. The 21-year-old appreciated the help she obtained in her history-making 2022 season.

“Widoki może i piÄ™kne, ale na jajecznicÄ™ siÄ™ tu nie zaÅ‚apaÅ‚am. Mam za to nadziejÄ™, że bawiliÅ›cie siÄ™ na gali wspaniale. (The views may be beautiful, but I didn’t catch scrambled eggs here. I hope you had a great time at the gala),” Swiatek mentioned in a tweet.

“DziÄ™kujÄ™ baaardzo za wsparcie i wyróżnienie. Ogromnie gratulujÄ™ wszystkim nominowanym i nagrodzonym. (Thank you so much for your support and recognition. Huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners),” she added.

Swiatek helped Poland attain the semi-final of the United Cup, a joint ATP-WTA occasion. After the event, she withdrew from the Adelaide International 2 with a proper shoulder damage. Swiatek would be the high seed on the 2023 Australian Open, starting January 16.
