In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the Indian team’s performance led to a 2-2 tie in the Test series. Some players, however, were not selected to play and spent the entire series on the bench. One of the opening batsmen, feeling disheartened by this, shared his feelings with his father. The player’s father disclosed the details of the conversation, revealing the player’s disappointment. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has now offered reassurance to the cricketer, potentially ending the lengthy wait for opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Easwaran had hoped to play in the fifth Test match against England, but his omission from the playing XI left him feeling dejected. His father, Ranganathan Parameswaran Easwaran, discussed the conversation on a YouTube channel, where he revealed that Easwaran told him over the phone that he still hadn’t been given a chance to play.
Despite his strong performances for India-A in England, Easwaran was still not included in the playing XI. He was first included in the Indian team in 2021-22, yet is still awaiting his debut. Easwaran’s father also shared that coach Gautam Gambhir had provided considerable support to his son.
Even in the final Test match, Abhimanyu Easwaran, the opening batsman, was disappointed. His father, Parameswaran Easwaran, mentioned that coach Gautam Gambhir spoke with his son, reassuring him that he was on the right path and would eventually get his opportunity. Gambhir told him he would be a part of the team for an extended period.
Gautam Gambhir said: “I’m not someone who will drop you from the team after a match or two. You’ll get a long opportunity.” Abhimanyu revealed to his father that the entire coaching staff had assured him he would receive the opportunity he deserved. Parameswaran Easwaran emphasized that his son has spent four years waiting to play for his country and has dedicated 23 years of his life to the sport. On his return from England, Abhimanyu has started preparing for the Duleep Trophy.
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father shared that his son will be heading to Bengaluru to prepare for the Duleep Trophy. He will be spending 10-12 days there. He will also visit Dehradun for a short period. Abhimanyu Easwaran joined the Indian team in 2021-22 but is yet to feature in the playing XI, with 15 other players having made their Test debuts since then. This opening batsman has played 103 first-class matches, scoring 7841 runs at an average of 48.70.
