From Bhiwani to Glasgow: The Promise Kept by Indian Boxer Sakshi Chauhdary
Sakshi Chauhdary’s journey began in Bhiwani, where she first watched fellow Indian boxer Vijender Singh and decided to take up the sport. Years later, she travelled to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games 2026, carrying a simple yet powerful promise to her parents – to win gold and return home.
The promise held firm. Competing in the 51 kg category, Chauhdary outperformed a tough field and clinched the top podium spot. Her triumph was celebrated with the Indian national anthem echoing across the stadium, a moment she called the pinnacle of her boxing career.
Back in Bhiwani, the celebration was equally grand. Large numbers of relatives and locals gathered to honour her achievement, turning her homecoming into a community festival. Chauhdary said the collective joy reinforced her belief in perseverance and dedication to the nation.
