Najmul Hossain Shanto has resigned from his position as the Test captain of Bangladesh. This decision follows Bangladesh’s series loss to Sri Lanka, with the final Test ending in an innings and 78-run defeat at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. Sri Lanka secured the series 1-0. Speaking to the media after the match, Shanto explained his decision to step down, emphasizing that it was made to benefit the team. In the final match, Bangladesh’s batting performance was not up to par, failing to build substantial partnerships. Sri Lanka, however, showcased strong batting, with Pathum Nissanka leading the charge, supported by notable performances from other players. The Sri Lankan bowlers, including Prabath Jayasuriya, then ensured victory by dominating Bangladesh’s second innings.
