The 64th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament concluded with Assam’s team claiming victory in the Girls Under 17 category. Assam secured the title by winning against West Bengal with a score of 3-1 in the final match. Football fans enjoyed 31 thrilling matches after the Girls category began on August 19th. In the final, Betkuchi High School from Assam defeated Nandaizar Adivasi Pashili High School of West Bengal. Although West Bengal had chances, they failed to score. Assam, using strong attacking and defensive strategies, took the lead. Milina Brahma scored for Assam in the 24th minute, followed by Sayshree Sangma in the 12th minute, and Mari Mech in the 29th, resulting in Assam leading 3-1. Neha Baroi scored the single goal for Bengal in the 21st minute. Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari, the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. Navdeep Singh, the Arjuna Awardee and Paralympic gold medalist, a para-athlete, and javelin thrower, was a special guest. The ceremony included the distribution of awards. The day opened with a performance by the Air Warrior Drill Team, followed by a performance by the students of the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute. The Subroto Cup includes the Under-17 Girls, Under-15 Boys, and Under-17 Boys categories. All 200 matches will be completed by September 25th. The News9 Indian Tigers and Tigresses talent hunt initiative by TV9 Network will offer training in Germany to scouted players. This season focused on the girls’ category. The tournament will proceed to Bengaluru for the Sub-Junior Boys Under-15 matches from September 2-11. Following that, the Junior Boys Under-17 matches will take place in Delhi. Navdeep Singh, the Indian para-athlete and javelin thrower who won a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, praised the News9 Tigers and Tigresses football talent hunt initiative. He highlighted that this initiative will help Indian players learn from international coaches, enhancing their skills. Singh acknowledged the differences in playing styles between international and Indian players and stated that such initiatives would aid in reducing this gap. He further mentioned that the Subroto Cup is a great opportunity for aspiring footballers. He also advocated for more domestic tournaments to uncover talent for the 2036 Olympics. Group Captain Gajanan Yadav, the Honorary Secretary of the Subroto Cup, commended the News9 Indian Tigers and Tigresses football talent hunt initiative by the TV9 Network and expressed his hope for ongoing support.
