Full 100 rupees of government now gets to the public: Prakash Javadekar
New Delhi. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday described the accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as equivalent to revolution and said that 100 rupees to 100 rupees reach the public directly during the tenure of Modi government. The Narendra Modi government on 28 August 2014 started this ambitious scheme to reach the banks of those who did not have bank accounts and 40.35 crore accounts have been opened in six years. Javadekar said today, “The opening of Jan Dhan accounts is nothing short of a revolution. 400 million bank accounts have been opened in the last six years. Where the Prime Minister of Congress used to say that 100 rupees are given by the government, but only 15 rupees reach the people, whereas the Modi government delivers 100 rupees to 100 people directly. Of the total open accounts under the scheme, 63.6 percent are open in rural and 36.4 in urban areas. Of the total accounts, 55.2 percent have been opened by half of the country’s population ie women while 44.2 percent were from others.
