In a bid to facilitate more comprehensive voter registration updates, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline by one week across 12 states and Union Territories. This extension gives individuals more opportunity to ensure their names are correctly listed in the electoral rolls. The publication of the draft electoral roll has been postponed to December 16, from its original December 9 date. Subsequently, the final electoral roll will be published on February 14, 2026, rather than February 7. This diligent revision process is essential for democratic fairness. The ongoing second phase of the SIR is actively being conducted in regions such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. A prior intensive revision was successfully carried out in Bihar.
