With the convergence of Muharram and the Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, authorities have significantly increased security measures across districts including Sambhal, Lucknow, and Moradabad. The goal is to ensure peaceful observances and prevent any untoward incidents.
Across the state, large processions mark Muharram. Police presence has been bolstered in sensitive zones, with drones and CCTV cameras used for monitoring. In Sambhal, District Magistrate Dr. Rajender Pensiya outlined the importance of peace committee meetings, addressing various community concerns. Security measures include magistrates and police at all procession locations, the ‘box format’ for processions, continuous drone surveillance, and extensive CCTV coverage. Steps are being taken to ban problematic individuals and enforce relevant sections.
In Lucknow, especially in the Old Lucknow area, heightened security is evident. DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava highlighted the multi-layered security approach, involving procession escorts, route management, and security at strategic locations. The area is equipped with CCTV cameras, Civil Defence volunteers, and multiple types of drones. Communication with religious leaders is ongoing.
Moradabad is also implementing proactive measures. District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh discussed the peace committee meetings. Preparations for the Kanwar Yatra route are underway, including road improvements, and measures to regulate activities during the events.
