In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, ABVP activists demonstrated outside the residence of Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, protesting against his comments. The demonstration was in response to a police baton charge at the Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University (SRMU) in Barabanki.
During the protest, students chanted slogans against Minister Rajbhar and the government. The demonstration turned violent, leading to a clash with the police. Several activists were detained and taken to Eco Garden.
The initial protest was related to the LLB course at the university, which allegedly lacked recognition from the Bar Council of India (BCI). The police responded with a baton charge, injuring multiple students. Students have accused the police of excessive force and collusion with university authorities.
Minister Rajbhar’s controversial remarks about the injured students angered the protesters. ABVP activists responded by staging a demonstration, burning effigies, and chanting slogans.
ABVP officials have demanded strict action against those responsible for the incidents at the university. The police used force to control the situation, detaining several protesters.
The incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties. The Samajwadi Party (SP)’s student wing, Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, and NSUI staged a protest in support of ABVP. SP leaders have called for compensation and proper treatment for the injured students. The Chief Minister has ordered investigations and personnel changes following the events.
ABVP and other student organizations have demanded the Vice Chancellor’s removal and the reinstatement of expelled students. They also demand clarification on the law degree’s recognition status. They warned that the protest would escalate if their demands are not met.
