Union Minister Sanjay Seth slams state’s inaction on Jharkhand exam scandal

During a question‑and‑answer session in the Lok Sabha, Union State Minister Sanjay Seth raised the issue of alleged malpractice in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations. He pointed out that for the past fourteen days, a crowd of students, some travelling from as far as a kilometre away from the chief minister’s official residence, have been camped outside demanding answers.

Seth warned that the continued silence of senior state officials not only erodes public trust but also breaches the basic tenets of democratic accountability. "If the chief minister possesses even a modicum of humanitarian concern, she must remember that those protesting are the sons and daughters of the state," he said.

He also challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that the nation is well aware of Gandhi’s “double standards.” According to Seth, Gandhi raises issues only when they promise political gain and fails to meet the Jharkhand protestors in person, a move that could have diffused tension.

The minister concluded that blaming the central government alone is unfair, urging the state administration to engage directly with the student movement and restore confidence in the recruitment process.
