The film centered on the Kanhaiya Lal murder in Rajasthan has been released after facing legal opposition. From the High Court to the Supreme Court, efforts were made to prevent its release. Despite these challenges and mandated revisions, the film is now available. Kanhaiya Lal Sahu’s sons, Yash and Tarun, attended a screening at the Urban Square Mall in Udaipur, and were profoundly affected by the depiction of their father’s murder.
Producer Amit Jani shared a video of Kanhaiya Lal’s sons on social media, along with a call for public support. He stated that the financial proceeds from ‘Udaipur Files’ would be given to Kanhaiya’s family.
In his post, the producer expressed the need to recognize the family’s grief, asking if viewers would support the film. He aimed to generate sufficient revenue within a week to provide a 50-crore check to the family, contrasting this with instances where profits benefited controversial content creators. The producer emphasized that the earnings from ‘Udaipur Files’ would go directly to Kanhaiya Lal’s family.

The film’s release was contested in the High Court and the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ordered the removal of certain scenes. The individuals accused of the murder tried to halt the film’s release. Ultimately, the Supreme Court left the decision regarding the film’s release to the central government, resulting in its release on August 8.
The film, ‘Udaipur Files’, focuses on the June 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This event led to widespread public anger across India. The murder was connected to the contentious remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma regarding the Prophet Muhammad. Kanhaiya Lal’s support for Sharma, which he shared on social media, led to his brutal killing by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gaus.
