Coimbatore police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a college student near the city’s international airport. The victim, a student at a local private college, was attacked late Sunday night while with a friend in a parked vehicle. The assailants reportedly assaulted the friend before abducting the student.
She was later discovered in a severely traumatized state in an unoccupied area near the airport and was rushed to a hospital. Police Commissioner Saravana Sundar confirmed the arrests of the three suspects: Guna, Karuppasamy, and Karthik, also known as Kaleeswaran.
During an attempt to escape capture in Vellakinaru, the accused were shot in the legs by police officers. A head constable was also injured in the exchange. All injured parties, including the suspects, are being treated at a Coimbatore hospital. The Peelamedu police are actively investigating all aspects of this disturbing crime, with further details expected as the investigation progresses.
