The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently probing the accusations regarding alleged incidents at Dharmasthala in Karnataka. The SIT has taken action by detaining and questioning the complainant. The complainant, a former sanitation worker, had claimed to have buried bodies, including those of women and minors, some with evidence of sexual assault, at Dharmasthala from 1995 to 2014. The SIT, led by Pranav Mohanty, questioned the accuser late into Friday night. Authorities have indicated the detention was due to inconsistencies discovered in the complainant’s statements and supporting documentation. The Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, has suggested that the claims are part of a conspiracy to harm the image of Dharmasthala and that the investigation will reveal the truth. He also stated that strong action would be taken if the accusations are found to be false.
