Sharad Pawar stated that the central government should make a decision on the matter because in a state like Tamil Nadu, 72% reservation has been given and it has also been sustained in the court. If needed, a decision will have to be taken in Parliament by amending the Constitution. Pawar said that the concept of reservation is not new for Maharashtra. Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj had given 50 percent reservation for the progress of the backward classes. Currently, there is a discussion going on about Maratha versus OBC. There are many difficulties and backwardness in both societies. Reservation is necessary for the progress of this large section of people who are suffering. He further added, “A large section of the Maratha community is engaged in farming, but due to lack of sufficient progress from farming, they need reservation to be brought into the mainstream. However, it is necessary to take precautions so that bitterness does not increase between the two societies while doing this.”
