Senior citizen men are being warned to be vigilant against sophisticated honey-trap scams designed to extort money. The tactics involve initiating contact through missed calls, building relationships, and then setting up compromising situations, followed by blackmail. A recent case illustrates the danger. A man in Gurugram, a widower, was targeted and threatened with a false rape case after interacting with the women. His family sought legal assistance and filed a police report. The police were provided with recordings and other evidence. Three individuals were arrested. Authorities advise those who believe they are victims to gather evidence, such as voice recordings, to support their case. The final demand was reduced to Rs 6.5 lakhs.
