A road accident in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, resulted in the death of a delivery boy, sparking unrest and prompting a significant police response. Protests erupted at the scene, escalating into clashes between the police and the crowd, including stone-pelting. To manage the situation, the police deployed tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. The incident unfolded near the Salt Lake area between Wednesday and Thursday night. Eyewitnesses described the delivery boy traveling towards Salt Lake and stopping at a signal when a four-wheeler collided with him. His leg became trapped in a rod, and the vehicle subsequently burst into flames, causing the delivery boy to be fatally burned. No one at the scene provided assistance. The police were also accused of using tear gas to disperse the crowd that gathered after the accident. A police officer recounted that upon reaching the site, they found a burning vehicle and a deceased person. They aided in the rescue of other trapped passengers and arranged for their transfer to the hospital. Even after the fire brigade’s arrival, some individuals continued to throw stones. The police initially held back but ultimately resorted to using tear gas to disperse the crowd when they attempted to block the road.
