Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered the tragic events of 1947 and the loss of life, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to social harmony. India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. The partition caused one of the largest migrations in human history, impacting around 20 million people. Numerous families had to abandon their homes, becoming refugees, and starting new lives.
