A man shot his wife dead in a public market in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday evening. The tragic event occurred at approximately 8 pm on Jail Road, within the jurisdiction of the Shahpur Police Station. The primary cause of the shooting appears to be a disagreement over property. The victim, Mamta Chauhan, was accompanying her husband, Vishwakarma Chauhan, at a photo studio when the violence erupted. The husband had hidden a pistol inside his helmet. He then used the weapon to shoot his wife, resulting in her death. The couple had been married for 15 years and shared a 13-year-old daughter. They had been separated for a year and a half. Mamta, who was from Khajni, was living with her daughter in a rented residence near Geeta Vatika. The accused remained at the scene for about 25 minutes after the shooting, claiming he was greatly distressed by his wife’s actions. Police immediately took the suspect into custody and launched an official investigation into the murder.
