Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. The delimitation process, driven by urban expansion and new urban body formations, has led to reductions in the number of wards across various levels of the panchayat system. The number of Gram Panchayats has decreased from 58,189 to 57,694. The terms of the Gram Pradhans will end on May 26, 2026, Kshetra Panchayat heads on July 19, 2026, and Zilla Panchayat chairpersons on July 11, 2026. Therefore, the reports on ward reorganization are expected to be sent to the government soon.
