In the ongoing case of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, convicted of killing Yemeni businessman Talal Abdo Mahdi, a dispute has arisen regarding the execution. Talal’s brother, Abdul Fattah Mahdi, has directly challenged Muslim cleric Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, accusing him of disseminating unverified information about the execution being postponed. Mahdi has called for a live broadcast to clarify the situation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also stepped in, denying reports suggesting that Nimisha Priya’s death penalty has been overturned. Indian officials confirmed that they haven’t received any formal information about a change in the decision.
Mahdi and his family are seeking the immediate enforcement of the court’s ruling and reiterated their demand for qisas, the principle of retributive justice under Islamic law. Their stance remains that the execution should proceed as per the court’s initial decision.
