Anjana Krishna, an IPS officer, is facing increased scrutiny in the wake of a disagreement with Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Amol Mitkari, an NCP leader, has requested the UPSC to scrutinize Anjana Krishna’s credentials. Mitkari submitted a formal letter to the UPSC Secretary following the viral video controversy connected to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The root of the issue is related to the illicit excavation of soil in the Madha region of Solapur. The controversial video allegedly depicts Ajit Pawar speaking with Anjana Krishna via telephone, instructing her to stop the illegal mining; however, Krishna is reported to have denied recognition, and the conversation was cut short. This video quickly gained traction on social media, sparking significant debate. Mitkari’s letter to the UPSC Secretary requests an investigation into Anjana Krishna’s educational certificates, caste certificates, and other related documents. The letter voices suspicions about the authenticity of the officer’s documents, urging the commission to verify their accuracy through an official inquiry. The incident unfolded as Anjana Krishna and her team reached the scene of the unlawful mining activity. NCP leader Baba Jagtap Singh then contacted Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, requesting a conversation with Anjana. Anjana Krishna, in response, refused to acknowledge Pawar, and requested a call from his official number. The call subsequently ended, and the video gained widespread attention. Anjana Krishna, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, attained the 355th rank in the 2023 UPSC exam and currently serves as DSP in Karmala, Solapur. Her father is a small-scale cloth trader, and her mother is a court typist. She is described as a fearless IPS officer.
