Investigators are unraveling a complex terror plot following the Red Fort blast, with new revelations including the purchase of an AK-47 rifle by accused Muzammil for Rs 6.5 lakh, later found with co-accused Adil. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has broadened its investigation to encompass a sophisticated “white-collar” terror module operating across several states, suggesting a deeper and more insidious conspiracy.
The operational structure appears to be well-defined, with Muzammil receiving instructions from handler Mansoor and Umar reporting to Hashim. Both handlers are believed to have been directed by Ibrahim, a higher operative managing regional activities. This structured approach points towards a well-organized terror syndicate.
Crucially, foreign connections have been identified. In 2022, Muzammil, Adil, and Muzaffar journeyed to Turkey under the guidance of Okasa, an operative linked to the Pakistan-based Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP). Their intention was to secure passage into Afghanistan, but the plan was aborted due to issues with a designated contact. Communication with Okasa was maintained via a Telegram ID, highlighting the group’s reliance on secure communication channels.
Evidence also indicates Umar’s radicalization through online extremist materials. He procured necessary components from markets in Nuh, Bhagirath Palace, and Faridabad’s NIT Market. The NIA is withholding specific technical details about the explosives. Four accused individuals, including Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, Adeel Rather, Shaheen Shahid, and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay, have been remanded to 10-day NIA custody after their arrest by Jammu & Kashmir Police as part of the wider terror network investigation.
The November 10th blast near the Red Fort, which resulted in 15 fatalities, was carried out using a vehicle allegedly purchased under a false name by Dr. Umar un Nabi. The investigation has also uncovered an attempt to recruit Jasir Bilal Wani as a suicide bomber. The discovery of 2,900 kg of explosives just before the attack underscores the vastness of the conspiracy. The NIA is actively pursuing international communication channels, funding sources, and cross-border coordination, with further arrests anticipated.
