Mamata authorities handy out loans to 67 lakh ladies SHGs forward of panchayat polls

KOLKATA:  Hoping to strike a wire with ladies previous to the panchayat ballot subsequent yr, the state authorities on Monday determined to offer monetary help to 67 lakh ladies by providing them mortgage by way of self-help teams.

Women proved to be the Trinamool Congress’ sturdy vote-bank in final yr’s Assembly elections.

As per plan, monetary help of Rs 17,000 crore can be given to six.69 lakh self-help teams. In the earlier monetary yr, the amount of economic help was Rs 13,000 crore.

Prior to the 2021 elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had promised to offer month-to-month dole for girls homemakers.  

After TMC gained for a 3rd straight time period, she launched the ‘Lakhir Bhandar’, which affords month-to-month help of Rs 1,000 for SC and ST ladies, and Rs 500 for others.

According to a TMC chief, “The promise before the Assembly elections proved to be her masterstroke in consolidating women votes in TMC’s favour. Now, the additional Rs 4,000 crore grant for self-help groups is aimed to retain this support for the panchayat polls.”

The self-help teams in south Bengal districts can be given a goal of over Rs 1,000 crore every.

“These districts are thought of our bastions,’’ stated the chief.
