Modi met with the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and former President Mohamed Nasheed, and welcomed the formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group. Discussions with Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef covered critical aspects of the India-Maldives relationship, including technology, infrastructure, energy, and climate change. Modi, invited by President Mohamed Muizzu for the Independence Day celebrations, underscored the depth of the long-standing bilateral relationship. India and the Maldives also finalized eight key agreements covering a wide spectrum of sectors including financial assistance, debt solutions, fisheries, digital innovation, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
