Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh has taken decisive action following the reported deaths of children in Chhindwara linked to a cough syrup, imposing a ban on the sale of Coldrif. The majority of the children who passed away were under the age of five. CM Yadav expressed his grief and announced the ban, which extends to all products manufactured by the same company.
The cough syrup is connected to illnesses among children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, with 12 deaths reported. The government initiated investigations into the syrup suspected of causing the illnesses.
CM Mohan Yadav posted on social media, expressing his sadness over the deaths in Chhindwara due to Coldrif syrup. He confirmed the ban on the syrup throughout Madhya Pradesh and on other products from the same company. The factory where the syrup was manufactured is located in Kanchipuram. The state government then asked the Tamil Nadu government to investigate. Upon receiving the investigation report this morning, strict measures were put in place. Local investigations were underway, and a state-level team has been formed to probe the matter further, ensuring accountability.
Minister Vishwas Sarang Singh also addressed the issue, confirming the ban on Coldrif cough syrup, as directed by CM Dr. Mohan Yadav. The action was taken swiftly after the investigation. The minister clarified that no medication that could have negative impacts on patients will be allowed for sale in Madhya Pradesh and that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
