The political career of Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is under intense scrutiny following his suspension from the party amidst serious allegations of misconduct. The accusations include sending offensive messages and threatening a pregnant woman to have an abortion, supported by a recently surfaced audio clip. This audio clip purportedly contains a conversation where Mamkootathil issues threats and coerces a woman to terminate her pregnancy, claiming the pregnancy would damage his life. The woman in the clip is heard questioning the MLA’s intent to terminate the pregnancy without her consent. Rahul replies, implying her permission is not required and that she is not considering the consequences. The audio includes statements in which he threatens her by saying he doesn’t know what he will do and adding that he could kill her. The controversy also involves allegations from several women, including Rini Ann George and Avantika, who have accused him of sending sexually suggestive messages and inviting them to five-star hotels for overnight stays. Rini Ann George reported that Rahul used to harass her through messages, and she had reported this to the Congress leadership. She also claimed that Rahul has repeatedly misbehaved with the wives and daughters of several leaders. The opposition BJP has demanded that Mamkootathil resign from the state assembly. The party leadership is likely to seek a written explanation from him regarding the accusations, and expulsion from the party is possible if his explanation is deemed unsatisfactory. The suspension will require Mamkootathil to sit separately during the assembly session scheduled to begin on September 15, although he is expected to avoid the session. The surfacing of this audio clip has added fuel to the controversy, intensifying the demand for his resignation and raising significant concerns about his conduct.
