The scene in Karur, Tamil Nadu, following the stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally, is one of deep sorrow and visible chaos. The ground is covered in a grim mix of discarded footwear, crushed bottles, tattered flags, remnants of clothing, broken items, and various types of trash, serving as a stark reminder of the tragedy that occurred.
The Health Secretary of Tamil Nadu, P. Senthil Kumar, discussed the casualties, confirming that 39 people died in the stampede. The dead included 17 women, 13 men, 4 boys, and 5 girls. Autopsies have been performed on 30 of the deceased, and their bodies have been returned to their families. The remaining post-mortems are still in progress. It was also reported that 26 injured people received outpatient treatment, and 67 were hospitalized, with two in critical condition.
