Authorities in Simdega district, Jharkhand, are investigating a disturbing incident where a woman allegedly set her husband on fire. Manoj Singh of Ganjhu Toli, Genmer Panchayat, Bano block, was severely injured after his wife, Puja Devi, reportedly poured petrol on him and set him alight. He is currently hospitalized at the IGH Hospital in Rourkela, with his condition being reported as critical.
Police from Girda OP took Puja Devi into custody and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Manoj and Puja had been married for approximately four months. An argument reportedly occurred between the couple on Friday regarding a domestic matter. After the argument, Manoj left their home and sat a short distance away.
Reports indicate that Puja then approached him, poured petrol over his body, and set him on fire. Before Manoj could react, he was engulfed in flames, suffering serious burns. Local residents and family members extinguished the fire and provided initial medical assistance before he was transferred to Rourkela.
The police are examining the circumstances leading to this act, but the motive remains unclear. The incident has caused significant shock and concern within the community.
This event echoes a previous incident in the Gumla district of Jharkhand, where a woman attacked her husband with an axe over a dispute about food preparation. She then set him on fire using petrol. The couple’s 10-month-old child was also injured in the fire.
