Chatra and Hazaribagh police, acting on specific information, conducted an operation that led to an encounter where Uttam Yadav, a notorious criminal, was killed. Uttam sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the chest, stomach, and thigh during the encounter. His body was taken to Chatra Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem, expected later in the night. Uttam Yadav was also believed to be involved in running a criminal organization called the Tiger Group.
In a show of defiance, Uttam Yadav had previously issued open threats in June, brandishing an AK-47 and demanding extortion from contractors and business people in Hazaribagh and Chatra districts. He warned of severe consequences for those who refused to pay. Additionally, Uttam Yadav took responsibility for a shooting incident at a jewelry shop in the Sadar police station area of Hazaribagh district on June 22. This video of Uttam Yadav went viral on social media, drawing attention from law enforcement, business owners, and the public.
Uttam Yadav had numerous serious criminal cases, including murder, robbery, and extortion, registered against him in various districts of Jharkhand. The police had been actively searching for him. Acting on a tip, police from Chatra and Hazaribagh set up a cordon on the Bagra-Jabra road in the Simaria police station area to arrest him. However, Uttam Yadav fired at the police team. In response, the police returned fire, killing Uttam Yadav.
This incident follows the March 2025 encounter in Palamu district, where notorious gangster Aman Sahu was killed. This happened when the Jharkhand Police was transporting Aman Sahu on remand from a jail in Chhattisgarh to Ranchi. During this transfer, Aman Sahu attacked the police team, attempting to flee after taking an INSAS rifle from a police officer. The police retaliated and killed Aman Sahu.
