A significant train accident has occurred in Chandil, Jharkhand, involving a collision between two goods trains near the Chandil railway station. The incident, which took place early Friday morning, has resulted in multiple derailed coaches and severe damage to the locomotives.
The collision has led to a complete suspension of train services on both up and down tracks due to the debris. Authorities are looking into a potential technical malfunction within the signaling system as a possible cause.
One goods train was traveling from Tatanagar to Bokaro, while the other was heading from Bokaro to Tatanagar. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the collision.
According to local information, a goods train traveling from Tatanagar towards Purulia derailed after passing Chandil station. The derailed coaches subsequently came onto the adjacent track.
A second goods train, approaching from the opposite direction, then collided with those derailed coaches, resulting in the second train also derailing. The accident occurred between the Pitki railway gate and Chandil station.
All train services on the Chandil-Tatanagar and Chandil-Bokaro routes have been canceled. Several trains have been affected by cancellations, diversions, or short terminations.
Restoring the track and resuming regular operations may require at least a day. Senior railway officials are at the site, overseeing the situation, with relief and repair efforts already in progress.
