With the Shravani Mela just around the corner, the annual pilgrimage to Deoghar is about to begin. The administration is gearing up to manage the large number of devotees expected. Amidst the sea of pilgrims, a special group of devotees, known as ‘Dak Bam,’ stand out for their incredible feat of endurance. This article highlights the remarkable dedication of these individuals.
What is a Dak Bam?
A Dak Bam is a Kanwariya who completes the 105-kilometer journey from Sultanganj to Deoghar within 24 hours without stopping during the Kanwar Yatra. This requires immense physical and mental fortitude. This tradition is a significant part of the culture in Purvanchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Facilities for Dak Bam
Dak Bam Kanwariyas receive special treatment at Baba Dham. They have their own queue for Jalabhishek and are given priority. Other pilgrims clear the way for them to ensure they can continue their journey without any breaks. If a Dak Bam pauses, their journey is considered incomplete.
