The last rites of the former Jharkhand Chief Minister, the late Shibu Soren, took place with full rituals on Tuesday. The cremation was held in Nemra, his ancestral village, under the jurisdiction of the Gola block in Ramgarh district. A large number of people, including his admirers, were present.
Upon hearing the news of the cremation of Shibu Soren, also known as Guruji, people began arriving at Nemra early on Tuesday. The district administration had set up barricades at Lukaiyatand, about seven kilometers before the village. VIPs had access to a helipad and vehicle arrangements. The route for the VIPs was managed by the district administration. However, the supporters of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Shibu Soren opted to walk the seven-kilometer distance.
Ordinary citizens walked to Nemra from Lukaiyatand. Roads were crowded. The route to the crematorium, prepared by the district administration, was muddy. Planks were used to carry the body across paddy fields. With no space on the path, the public resorted to footpaths through the fields. Supporters of Shibu Soren reached the crematorium from different footpaths. Despite the rain, which led some to seek shelter in tents, the supporters of Shibu Soren remained steadfast, standing in the rain for about half an hour to pay their respects before leaving.
