A violent incident in Ranchi, Jharkhand, saw an unidentified attacker enter a home late Sunday evening and open fire on a man, resulting in his death. The assailant fired approximately five to six shots during the attack. Another individual, who attempted to chase after the attacker, was also shot and seriously wounded. The incident took place in the Jhakhara Tand area under the Ratu police station’s jurisdiction.
In Jhakhara Tand, the attacker shot and killed Ravi Sao, firing three bullets. Balma, who pursued the assailant, was severely wounded by the gunfire. The incident has sparked fear throughout the area. Upon receiving information, Ranchi’s Rural SP Praveen Pushkar, DSP, and the Ratu police arrived at the scene. A forensic team is also present, gathering evidence.
Investigators are currently exploring the possibility of a land dispute as a potential motive for the crime. The deceased was a resident of Tandwa, in the Chatra district of Jharkhand. Police have taken possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The injured individual, Balma, was taken to RIMS Hospital for treatment. While the specific reasons for this act are still under investigation, preliminary inquiries suggest a possible connection to a land dispute.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. SP Praveen Pushkar stated that Ravi Sao was drinking with Dadu Balma at Pradeep Munda’s home when an unknown assailant arrived and shot Ravi Sao three times, leading to his death. The attacker also fired upon Balma as he gave chase. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area and have launched a search operation, including checks at entry and exit points in Ranchi, in an effort to apprehend the suspect.
The incident has caused a wave of fear and anxiety within the local community. A similar incident occurred on August 10 in Ranchi’s Hindpidhi police station area, where Sahil Giddi, also known as Kurkure, was shot dead near Bhatti Chowk. Following that murder, local residents protested and caused damage and arson at the homes of several individuals, including a former councilor.
