Ranchi is set to join the ranks of modern cities with the introduction of flash charging electric buses, as announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on July 3, 2025, after the inauguration of the Ratu Road Elevated Corridor. These buses will accommodate 135 passengers per vehicle, and fares will be about 30% lower than the cost of diesel buses.
Gadkari also discussed plans for cable cars and funicular railways as part of the initiative to modernize transportation. The Minister shared that a pilot project for flash charging buses is currently in progress in Nagpur, with the tender already finalized. If the trial run is successful, Ranchi will also see the introduction of this technology.
These buses will provide a comfortable travel experience with features similar to those found in airplanes, including comfortable seating and in-bus entertainment. Despite these amenities, fares will be more affordable than those of diesel buses. Gadkari assured that he would greenlight the implementation of flash charging buses in Ranchi after the Nagpur project, responding to a request made by Sanjay Seth.
