A government primary school in the Tangratoli Basti area, near Piska Mor in Ranchi, Jharkhand, suffered a partial collapse on Friday morning. This incident, which occurred in the Sukhdev Nagar police station area, resulted in the death of Suresh Baitha, who was caught under the debris. Three other individuals were also injured in the collapse.
The collapse took place around 7:30 to 8:00 AM. Rescue efforts were immediately launched by local police and community members. The injured were promptly transported to a hospital for treatment. The injured individuals have been identified as Rohit Tirkey, Pritam, and Nitin Tirkey, and their conditions are reported to be serious. Details indicate that one person suffered a broken waist, and another a broken leg.
Following the tragic event, residents of Tangratoli Basti expressed their anger by taking the body of the deceased, Suresh Baitha, from the rubble and placing it on the road in protest. They are demanding that the district administration immediately demolish the crumbling school building to prevent similar incidents in the future. Furthermore, protestors are calling for appropriate compensation for the family of the deceased and the injured.
The school building was declared unsafe and closed during the COVID era, roughly four to five years ago. Despite being deemed unsafe, local people would often use the structure for shelter or rest, and some even slept in it at night. On Thursday night, several individuals were reportedly sleeping in the dilapidated building when the accident occurred on Friday morning. The villagers demand that the family of the deceased be given immediate compensation and the dilapidated school building be completely demolished to prevent further loss of life.
