A tragic road accident unfolded on the Harmu Bypass Road, a key route in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The incident, which occurred near the BJP’s Jharkhand state office within the Argora police station jurisdiction, involved a speeding Fortuner car that struck five individuals, leading to a state of shock across the city.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of three people, while two others sustained serious injuries. The injured individuals were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention and fighting for their lives. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The aftermath of the tragic event, which claimed three lives at the scene, saw a large crowd expressing their anger. The crowd blocked the road by placing the bodies of the deceased on the road, causing a complete standstill. Local residents criticized the slow response of the emergency services, noting that the ambulance took an hour to reach the site, despite the area being considered a VIP zone. They suggested that a quicker response might have saved lives.
The high-speed impact of the Fortuner car caused it to strike five pedestrians. The vehicle then veered off course, crossed the divider, and crashed into a tree on the other side of the road. Reports indicate the driver of the Fortuner was intoxicated. The crowd initially apprehended the driver, but the Argora police arrived and took the accused into custody.
Efforts were made to calm the agitated crowd and restore order. DSP PK Mishra from Hatia assured strict action would be taken against the accused, which led to the crowd clearing the road. DSP Mishra confirmed that a speeding Fortuner had been driven negligently, resulting in the accident that caused three fatalities and injuries to two others. He also stated that the injured individuals are receiving medical care and that the driver would face severe legal consequences.
