The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in Ranchi against Rajesh Devgam, accusing him of assisting the banned CPI-Maoist. The charges, filed in the special NIA court, include illegal possession of weapons, extortion, and sheltering members of the outlawed organization. Devgam, from West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, faces charges under the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The initial case was investigated by local police following the recovery of a large amount of money and incriminating materials linked to Misir Besra, a prominent member of the CPI (Maoist), in March 2024. The NIA took over the investigation in July 2024 and found evidence that Devgam was actively involved in terrorist acts, including organizing meetings and extorting money from contractors and traders.
