Health authorities in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, are investigating a case where a government hospital allegedly denied admission to a pregnant woman, claiming her unborn baby was deceased. The woman later delivered a healthy child at a private hospital, sparking controversy.
Vinod Sav recounted bringing his wife, Manisha Devi, to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College & Hospital. However, hospital staff denied admission, citing concerns about her hemoglobin levels and stating that the fetus had died.
Seeking alternative care, the couple sought assistance from a private hospital in the district. Manisha gave birth to a healthy baby there, leading Vinod Sav to express his gratitude to the private hospital’s doctors.
Following the incident, Hazaribagh’s Deputy Commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh ordered a probe and instructed the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College & Hospital to form an investigation committee. ‘Government hospitals are meant to offer good and affordable care. We are investigating the denial of care in this case,’ Singh stated.
Dr. Praveen Kumar, the owner of the private hospital, reported that after Manisha’s admission, several essential tests were performed, with all reports indicating positive results. He confirmed that the mother and newborn were in good health.
