A tragic incident occurred in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district when a boat carrying passengers capsized in the Ganges River. One person lost their life, and three remain missing. 27 passengers were able to swim to safety after the boat overturned near Gadai Diyara.
17 tribal youths had ventured out to catch rats and crossed the Ganges at Maharajpur Ghat. Local residents boarded the boat during their return journey, increasing its weight. The overloaded boat became unstable in the strong currents and capsized. Some youths bravely attempted to rescue those in peril, but one victim was found deceased. The search is underway for the three missing individuals with the help of local divers and authorities.
This incident highlights a recurring issue of boating accidents in the Sahebganj district. In December 2022, a cargo vessel capsized at Garam Ghat after one of its tires burst, resulting in the disappearance of a truck driver.
