A man in Sahibganj, Jharkhand, faces a 300,000-rupee fine after being caught in a compromising situation with a married woman, the mother of four. The incident unfolded when the man visited his girlfriend at night. Local villagers intervened, detaining the pair with ropes. The man was reportedly beaten, and the village council subsequently imposed the fine. Police were alerted and released the couple.
The incident took place in Basko village, under the Boriyo police station. The woman, estimated to be 30 years old and from a tribal community, was found with the man late on Monday. The man, Umesh Singh (22), a tempo driver from Vangawa village, was apprehended by villagers and presented to the village head. Following this, they were restrained for approximately ten hours before the panchayat convened and announced the fine. A video of the incident quickly went viral online.
The woman’s husband had previous suspicions about the relationship. The police arrived and took the couple to the police station. SDPO Kishore Tirkey confirmed no official complaint has been lodged, but the police are conducting their own investigation.
