Accusations of fabricating new criminal incidents to conceal the truth have been leveled against the Jharkhand government by Babulal Marandi, the state BJP president and Leader of Opposition. Marandi contends that the government and its administrative apparatus have adopted a strategy of creating fictional crimes to mask the extent of actual criminal activities. The Enforcement Directorate’s recent operations within the entrenched coal mafia network in Dhanbad have uncovered deeply unsettling evidence. Of particular concern is the alleged directive from certain ‘influential police officers,’ whose enrichment is reportedly linked to illegal coal dealings, to ‘eliminate’ key operatives of the coal mafia.
Intelligence suggests that individuals being interrogated by the ED are targets of assassination plots designed to ensure the suppression of vital information. The state has a history of witnessing staged ‘encounter killings’ presented as lawful apprehension of criminals. Jharkhand is familiar with a DGP facing accusations of contract killings and unprecedented levels of corruption, criticisms echoed even by members of the ruling coalition.
Marandi issued a stark warning to the ED, urging them to remain exceptionally vigilant. He highlighted that the current environment empowers those who hide the truth over those who seek it. When governmental authority, systemic structures, and criminal enterprises operate in unison, the perversion of justice becomes an easily achievable objective.
