He noted that many individuals are unaware of their status, potentially leading to transmission to future generations. He recommended increased screening coupled with counseling and access to required medical resources. He also suggested screening newborns to allow for prompt treatment. The government is collaborating with organizations like UNICEF to address sickle cell disease, with health initiatives to improve the state’s healthcare system. The goal is to create health profiles for better disease management.
The Chief Minister directed the health department to set up robust systems for testing and treating sickle cell patients, including easy access to blood and medication.
