Dhanbad’s key Gaya Pul Underpass is undergoing a major widening project, a vital step towards resolving persistent traffic congestion. District Magistrate Aditya Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar recently reviewed the construction progress, highlighting the project’s importance as a ‘lifeline’ for the city.
The official deadline for the completion of the Gaya Pul Underpass expansion is December 2026. However, officials are optimistic about accelerating the timeline, aiming to deliver the improved infrastructure to Dhanbad’s citizens sooner. This undertaking involves a complex interplay of several departments, including water, electricity, road construction, the municipal body, Indian Railways, and BSNL. The location is critical, situated beneath active express train routes connecting major Indian metropolises.
During the inspection, a strong emphasis was placed on unified action from all departments. Instructions were issued to expedite work and prevent any logistical hurdles. A significant addition to the project scope is the planned construction of a utility corridor. This integrated approach will accommodate essential services like water mains, drainage, gas pipelines, and pedestrian walkways, promoting efficient urban planning and maintenance.
