The tranquility of Dumka district in Jharkhand was shattered by a double murder, revealing a dark tale of greed and violence. The victims, Navgopal Saha and his wife, Vibhu Saha, were found murdered in their home. Their son was away from home at the time of the incident.
The Mufassil police station initiated an investigation in Chorkatta village. The investigation, overseen by SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar, employed technical analysis, including mobile phone records, to identify a suspect.
Attention quickly focused on Subal Saha, the couple’s younger son-in-law. He initially provided misleading statements. However, his alibi was debunked by evidence, placing him in the victims’ village, not in West Bengal as he had claimed.
Confronted with the evidence, Subal Saha confessed to the murders. The motive was a financial dispute. He arrived from Birbhum, West Bengal, on August 19th, and demanded money from his father-in-law to repair his truck. When the request was denied, a heated argument erupted. The couple had previously given financial support to their elder son-in-law, which further fueled Subal’s resentment. He used a brick to attack his father-in-law, resulting in his death. His mother-in-law was also killed when she intervened. Subal then stole jewelry and disposed of the father-in-law’s mobile phone to eliminate evidence. He returned to West Bengal to avoid suspicion. In a chilling display of deception, he even participated in the funeral of his in-laws, feigning sorrow.
The police have arrested the accused and recovered crucial evidence, including the stolen jewelry and the discarded mobile phone.
